A tale of a fortunate haircut

2.07.2013

As I mentioned yesterday, it has been almost two years since my last haircut.

Tuesday morning I finally decided enough was enough and called my stylist to see if she had an opening that day.

This is how I work, you see: I procrastinate and procrastinate and then I decide it's time to do something and I want to do it NOW. Of course she was booked for the day, but asked if I could come the next afternoon and I said, "SOLD".

The problem is when I showed up at the appointed time yesterday afternoon my stylist looked at me in horror and realized she had accidentally told me the wrong day to come in. She was in the middle of a weave and wouldn't be free for another hour and a half. Did I want to wait that long or come back the next day?

Ohhhh no. I was ready for a haircut and a haircut I was going to get, gosh darn it! So she told me where another salon was that had 30 good stylists and assured me they would probably have an opening for a walk-in. Off I drove, only to be disappointed that not one single lady was free.

Never fear, I remembered another place with a similarly large staff and went there next. No one available there either!

Dang it, stylists of the world!

The receptionist offered to call their "on-call" stylists to see if someone wanted to run in and I waited while she tried three different girls, all no answers. Then she suggested I wait a few minutes just in case one of them called right back. I didn't know of anywhere else to go so I said sure and while I waited she asked me what exactly I was wanting.

"Oh just some length chopped off and a few layers added in."

"Hang on just a minute", she replied and disappeared around a corner.

Next thing I know she's back with an apron on and tells me that she can do it, another lady will cover the desk for her. Seeing the look of "ain't no receptionist cutting my hair!" on my face she quickly explained she was a licensed stylist too and was just assigned to cover the front desk that day.

And I instantly knew she must be a total newbie but decided to plunge ahead and NOT ask her how long she'd been a stylist because I didn't want to know the answer. I wanted my hair cut.

And as luck would have it, it didn't turn out too bad.
I'm sure you wouldn't be able to tell but I had her cut off 8 inches.

(If I'm going to wait almost two years to cut my hair I want to be able to tell it's different!)

And that's the tale of my fortunate haircut... otherwise known as "Jodi ain't so patient sometimes and good golly, is definitely not a planner".

The end.

Sledddd!

2.05.2013

Oh was yesterday ever fun. The kids had the day off school so we joined up with my Mum and my sister and her family for a trip up Mt. Hood to go sledding.

(Kelly's husband got to take the day off. My husband, sadly, did not. I got over it really quickly though because, woohooo, Mt. Hood and SLEDDING!)

We ended up at a place called Snow Bunny, which sounded innocent enough, until we walked up to the first sledding hill and found this lovely scene at the bottom:
Which didn't really evoke feelings of safety or tameness.

There was not another soul there to explain what had happened though so we decided to chalk it up to an unfortunate nose bleed and venture on. And it was a good decision; Snow Bunny was awesome... and all ours!

And that started four hours of sledding mania which included multiple wipeouts, one broken sled, one cut nose (Elijah's, when he was accidentally sledded over), several sweet air jumps, many races, a hundred too many slow climbs back up the hill, one set of keys locked in the car, and about twenty video clips of our fun.

And now for my fave cell phone shots:

At one point Mum and I raced each other on our stomachs 6 times in a row. Today my ribs are telling me that that was 5 times too many.

And I definitely have a bruised left cheek. On my rear.
But it was so, soooo worth it :)

Pics from the cell phone this week:

Miss Miley "indisposed" and quarantined to the house.
Where she stares longingly out the window dreaming of cute boy dogs. Sorry sista!

Hot dog sale duty at our kids' school with Tricia, my sister-in-law.
All for the love of our 6th graders and their end-of-the-year trip fundraiser.

This little treat from the McDonalds dollar menu was my reward to myself yesterday after fasting all morning for a gallbladder ultrasound.

Good news: nothing wrong with my gallbladder.

More good news: we got our first break of sunshine in way too long and I actually had to pull my sunnies out! It made me so happy!

So you can imagine how I felt waking to these skies this morning!
"Aaaallelujaaaah"

My kids are outside building a fort as I type.
(no school today, perfect timing)

And I'm enjoying this little snack - a favorite since childhood.

Happy weekend to you!

Late night Monday confessional

1.28.2013

After a meeting and some errand running this morning I had to drive up into Portland for an appointment and didn't have time to swing back home for lunch. Instead I took my sidekick Blake through a drive-thru and then drove to our destination and parked in the parking garage to quickly eat.

Of course, Blake doesn't know the meaning of "quickly eat", so while waiting for him to finish I decided to check instagram on my phone (since I hadn't looked at it in a whole hour).

Next thing I knew, the parking garage was slowly moving forward (which was weird - it being concrete and all), so I glanced up and saw with shock that we were rolling backwards and halfway to hitting the row of cars parked opposite us.

Turns out parking requires you to actually put your vehicle in PARK. Huh.

Thankful no one was walking behind us,
Jodi (the unsafe cell user)

Because sometimes the simple act of uploading your instagram pics and captioning them is too much work for a Friday (or even a Saturday).

Last weekend was date night. Or as we called it, "cheap date night". Free movie tickets from Christmas and a stop at the Yogurt Shack for some froyo on the way, plus free babysitting from Grandma = $4.83 well spent! We saw Jack Reacher and I can tell you that I am not above being entertained by a good action/suspense guy movie involving Tom Cruise.

Cows in the midst. Not as exciting as gorillas, but not as dangerous either.

Blake looking tiny in our master bath pool tub. I couldn't fill it or it would go over his head!

After several days of freezing mist that never lifted, our place looked like a winter wonderland minus any actual snow. Just layers and layers of frost.

My kids meeting their new cousin (technically 2nd cousin) for the first time.

And me getting my snuggles in.

Indulging in a little sweet treat after a long grocery shopping trip.

Blake was pretty pleased to be along for the trip!

And then Friday we had to go visit Tristan again because I was Blake was having withdrawals. Yeah, that's it! ;)

And now is when I would usually wish you all a great weekend, but since it's pretty much over, I'll just say, have a great week!
