A Holly Golightly costume (and a couple other things)

11.22.2016

Ah, the glorious tradition of powder puff football to wind up school spirit week. (Kendall is #92)

My kids have long loved spirit week - where each day of the week is a different dress-up theme and there are usually special activities (like above), all while working together for a cause (last week it was a canned food drive for Thanksgiving food boxes to give out to the community.)

One of the days was "celebrity day" and Kendall decided at the eleventh hour to try and put together a Breakfast at Tiffany's outfit.

{Holly Golightly Goes to School}

This consisted of my sophomore year high school homecoming dress, which I was just as shocked as Kendall to discover still hanging in the back of our coat closet, a black fitted tee to make it dresscode appropriate, the tiara Kendall wore as the flowergirl in my sister's wedding 11 years ago, the necklace I just wore to my brother's wedding in September, Kendall's sunglasses, and a pair of black trouser socks snipped off at the toes in lieu of elbow length gloves.

For only having half an hour before school started to come up with this emsemble, we felt we hadn't done too shabbily. Sadly, we couldn't come up with a single last minute substitution for a cigarette holder. Whatcha gonna do.

And now for the "couple other things"...
My husband took this picture on his phone while eating out at work and proudly showed it to me to the other night. I laughed at it (well, him) because he always makes fun of me for taking food pics, and he's not on any form of social media to share it, so I asked him why he took it. "To show Cooper the bacon!" Hahaha. Men.

And lastly, puppy update coming at you live... they remain deliciously adorable and precious.

The end.

Just the High Points {Life Lately}

11.15.2016

I'm just going to start off by saying that yesterday I finished off the last of a Costco-sized bottle of A1 sauce on my elk steak that Russ cooked for dinner, and after tossing the bottle in the garbage and eating my meal, I realized I couldn't remember a time before that bottle of A1 sauce was sitting in our fridge door, so I retrieved it to check out the expiration date and was horrified to realize it was in 2007. That's expired in 2007, not made. DEAR SAINTS ABOVE.

And... I'm alive today so I figured, hey, maybe I should blog.

The last two weeks have been incredibly busy for us as a family. The weekend before last we were in Redmond, Oregon for the 1A volleyball State Finals, where Russ and I cheered on our daughter's team (we won the championship!) and also helped cook the team meals all weekend; I came home to a full week of last minute planning and preparation for Scrap Around the Clock, the huge 33-hour scrapbooking event I'm in charge of twice a year; we watched the elections and our minds exploded, along with the rest of the country; I ran Scrap Around the Clock with my scrap crew, the same weekend that we celebrated 4 different nephew's and niece's birthdays; basketball season just started up again; and oh, our dog Miley had puppies.

PUPPIES!

So here's a little pictoral recap:

And the best part of all...

6 little boys! We are in for a fun next couple of months :)

Let's Review

12.14.2015

In the past week, we've...

Visited Santa, and been good sports about it for the sake of the little believer...

been a tad excited over a signed copy of one of my favorite lady's newest book...

hit a deer, who ran off flipping me the bird...

discovered we need glasses (and picked the pair on the right, even though mama strongly fought for the pair on the left)...

had a special date to Red Robin during school hours as a treat for "doing a better job than most of my adult patients!", according to our optometrist...

taken some puppies to the vet (and been thrown up on by one little carsick fella)...

and chaperoned 26 jr. high and high schoolers visiting Zoo Lights...

where Russ got a little friendly with the Beast.

'Twas quite the week.

Hello from Puppyland

Our babies are almost 7 weeks old and it's too bad they're all going to new homes soon because we are besotted fools. I'm not kidding. It's alllll puppies, allll the time. JUST LOOK AT THE FLUFF!

I shared pictures of them when they were born, and today want to show what they all look like now...

(she's the teeniest darling little thing!)

I'm gonna miss them so much when they're gone! It's been a wonderful experience for our family.
Who knows... maybe we'll do it again next year :)

Poopageddon

11.02.2015

Fact: Miley doesn't like going outside in the rain. Even when she's eating for seven (nursing mama) and hasn't gone potty in hours, and it's bedtime and her last chance to go out and she KNOWS IT.

I tried three times last night, walking out onto the porch with her while she trotted to just under the edge of the porch roof that was being beaten with monsoon-loud rain and then looked up at me like, "that's a solid pass, lady", and high-tailed it back inside. So I said, "fine then", and went to bed.

And thus, last night will long be remembered as Miley's pooping reign of terror.

7 PILES.

ONE OF THEM FOUND HALF STEPPED IN.

On the plus side, my house now smells like the inside of a Pine-Sol bottle because I was forced to go on a sanitization rampage. Good times.

Also on the plus side: the puppies have opened their eyes! They are two weeks old now and growing like weeds and are the cause of much wasted time due to their adorableness. It's a real problem.

My kind of problem.

PUUUUPPIES!

10.22.2015

Miley's babies arrived Tuesday night, under pretty perfect circumstances. We were all home, set up and ready, and on HIGH ALERT after Miley kept trying to hide under our porch all day. By 8:30pm we finally had her settled in her whelping box (small kiddie pool lined with towels) in our bedroom, which is where she is used to sleeping. Once we shut the door to the chaotic boy noise going on in the living room, she starting pushing and it didn't take long before Russ and I, and eventually the older kids (Blake was in bed already), were witnessing our very first puppy birth! It was amazing. And just like Christmas, because we didn't know how many were coming or what they'd look like. We were literally like giddy little school kids and may or may not have facetimed a few family members who wanted to watch too ;)

Everything went perfectly... and I didn't really have to assist at all. Turns out Miley is an excellent little momma! I have been so proud of her, and love watching her care for her babies so well. And we got six of 'em! 4 boys and 2 girls, named (temporarily, until they go to their future homes) by each member of our family plus Cooper's buddy Judah who is staying with us this week while his mom recovers from surgery.

Let me introduce you to...
Ace
Cody
Huck
Ava
Ruger
and Marlow.

Man, do we love to watch them! I am OBSESSED. Miley had her final puppy at 11:30 pm and I finally dragged myself into bed at 1:45am. They are just so peaceful to watch, and their little noises are so darling.

This is going to be fun, guys.
