Some of you may be wondering what happened to my regularly scheduled Monday Confessional. You know, because it's Monday and all. Well I have a good excuse.
WE HAD A MAJOR WIND STORM AND LOST POWER AND ALMOST DIED IS WHAT HAPPENED!
Except scratch the almost dying part. Only my children thought that, who are obviously too attached to today's technological advances, and were so full of whines and complaints of "I"m booooored" after the first couple of hours without electricity that I was ready to pull my hair out.
I took my regularly scheduled Sunday afternoon nap with Blake instead. And then suggested dinner out. Russ suggested I was a little bit too delighted to not have power just so I wouldn't have to cook. Hey, I'll take any excuse I can get. So we ventured into town for dinner but before you go thinking we had a delightful meal out and all, you should know that we went to McDonald's drive-thru. I might have done better sticking with cold cereal.
At this point we had the evening to kill and a cold and dark house to go home to, which wasn't sounding very tempting, so I sent a text to my mother asking if they had power and explaining ours was out.
"If you don't have power how are you texting?" she replied.
And then quickly followed that up with a "don't answer that!"
Good thing, because she was about to get a "MUM! Seriously!!" from me. Instead, I teased her throughout the rest of the night because my parents did have power so we went over there and played games until 10:00 pm. Before we left we called home to see if our answering machine would come on (a sign that the power was back on) and had no luck so I asked Mum if I could borrow her laptop again to use her battery power up at home writing a quick blog post.
She agreed and I left quite happily, even when we saw that most everyone else's power was back on all the way up until 1/2 a mile from our house where we discovered a down power line across the road, and no one even working on it yet. A sure sign that our power wasn't about to come on any second. We reported the line, bundled the kids in bed and layered them with extra blankets, and Russ went to bed as well while I cuddled up in front of the fire, turned on the laptop, and tried to connect to the internet.
Which is when I realized I was an idiot because how was I supposed to do that with NO POWER TO RUN OUR WIRELESS ROUTER? The apple doesn't fall far from the airheaded moment tree...
I called into the bedroom: "I didn't think this out very well, honey...", and then called Mum to tell her I was sorry for making fun of her because I was just as ditzy as she was. It was a lovely bonding moment filled with much laughing at each other.
Anyways, our power is finally back on. And I had to cook dinner tonight so I'm not sure how great of a thing that actually is, but the children sure are happy!
I kid. I missed you internet world!!
Very funny!! I had a moment like that not long ago...ah, glad to know I am not alone!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad we can all have moments like this to laugh about ..after all, our husbands also did NOTHING to alert us to the fact that we might need the internet conection..one of whom has been known to have put a candle in the dishwasher to clean and the other drove half way home after a lunch break in town before realizing he was suppose to be driving back to work!! :D
ReplyDeleteha ha ha, so true! Just shows that nobody is safe from the periodic "blond moment"!
ReplyDeleteVery funny post. We were also out of power and stayed at my mom's until 10pm and came home to still no power and it didn't return to us until 4am! Our dinner was about as good as yours... Figaros:)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad my house is on a different line. We lost power for about a minute and that was it. ALTHOUGH I was watching a TV show on Netflix and it was getting to the high point of the episode when everything went black and I was like, "Noooooooooo!!" It was quite dramatic.
